Quenching Our Thirst with Prayer

I believe everyone would agree God has blessed us all in many, many ways.  However, one of those blessings we sometime take for granted is this place we call “home”, Lubbock, Texas.  Who would have dreamed that in a short 100 years, this speck on the Great American Plains would become a thriving city of more than 200,000?  In the beginning and even today the primary reason Lubbock flourishes is water.  From the crystal-clear pool known as the Lubbock Lake that quenched the thirst of “early-men”, the Comanche and conquistadores—to the Ogallala Aquifer that sustained the cattlemen, and cotton farmers, God’s “cup of cold water” has given life to this land and its people for thousands of years. Shared by all, this gift benefits all and continues to offer hope for the future.

Yes, His “cup of cold water” has allowed Lubbock and its people to grow and flourish, as has their spirit and devotion to prayer.  Some of the first structures built in our city were churches.  “Believers”, representing many faiths, assembled and humbly prayed for God’s guidance and gave thanks for His blessings.  Today, the building of churches continues and the need for prayer seems more important than ever before.

In the spirit of His “cup of cold water”, the Men’s Ministry asks you to support and participate in 100 Hours of Prayer.  It is a window-of-time, not only for Monterey but also our entire community, to unite and thank our Heavenly Father for His guidance in the past and request His continued blessing in the future.  We also hope each one of us will search our hearts and offer prayers regarding challenges, needs, and opportunities that have personal meaning and may make our community a better place today and tomorrow.

The 100 Hours of Prayer will begin with a special “Beginnings Breakfast” here at Monterey, Wednesday, March 19th, at 7 a.m.   The breakfast is free and everyone is invited.  Promptly at 8 a.m., we will close the breakfast with the first prayer of our 100 Hours.  Since we are not using traditional forms of advertising for 100 Hours of Prayer our Monterey family is being provided e-vite templates for the breakfast as well as e-letters regarding 100 Hours of Prayer.  Everyone will have easy access to these templates for copying or downloading. Our success hinges on our Monterey family e-mailing family, friends, and co-workers information about 100 Hours of Prayer.

Whether at home, work, school, church, or your own special “quiet-place”, let us pray that we, as a community, become a better reflection of God’s ever-flowing grace, mercy, and forgiveness.  In addition, as He commands, never stop sharing His life giving “cup-of-cold water” to all who are thirsty.
